Disney's Polynesian Resort

The Polynesian Resort is a romantic getaway just minutes from the Magic Kingdom. This hotel features a waterfall in the lobby, lush gardens, torch lit pathways, and a beautiful pool with a waterslide. A monorail station is right outside. The rooms were refurbished in 2013 and feature flat screen TVs and hand carved furniture. The furniture is comfortable and functional. You can choose garden or lagoon view rooms. There are concierge level rooms available.

The pool features a forty foot volcano, waterslide, and a pool side bar. There is a white sand beach where you can look across the Seven Seas Lagoon and see the Magic Kingdom. There are plenty of activities including waterskiing, parasailing, fishing and boating. There is a nightly parade of boats called The Electrical Water Pageant.

There are lots of dining options at the Polynesian Resort. The Kona Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It mixes American and Polynesian flavors. The Kona Island Coffee Bar features assorted coffees and pastries. Open in the evening is the Kona Island Sushi Bar. The sushi bar serves beer, wine, saki, sushi, and sashimi. Ohana is open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast at Ohana is a character breakfast. Dinner is all you can eat. The food is brought to you on skewers that were cooked over an oak fire. The meal features mesquite grilled turkey, Asian BBQ pork loin, marinated sirloin steak and spicy peel and eat shrimp.

If you would like some entertainment with your meal, visit Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. You’ll dine on BBQ ribs, roasted chicken, Polynesian rice, and seasonal vegetables. The show features fire dancers, hula dancers and drums.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is our pick for the best place to when you are traveling to Disney World without kids. It’s our number two pick for places to stay on a romantic Disney vacation. This resort has a secluded feel, like the lodges it is modeled after, but you’re still only minutes away from the Disney Parks.

Nestled on Bay Lake and surrounded by trees, Wilderness Lodge is quieter than Disney’s other resorts. This resort was designed with relaxation in mind. Fireplaces, comfortable seating, and quiet places are everywhere to inspire you to read, have a conversation, or just take a nap.

Wilderness Lodge is an inspired, loving recreation of the American National Park lodges of the 20^th century. The outside is built with logs, stone and timber columns. It’s all topped with a green metal roof.

The Lobby

Most hotel lobbies are utilitarian places to check in and check out. That is not the case at this deluxe resort. This lobby is one of this resort’s best features. The lobby at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is seven stories tall. It features a 32 foot tall fireplace, and its columns are hand carved totems. There are comfortable chairs and sofas in abundance and the lighting is warm. A bubbling spring flows under the picture window, into a creek, over a waterfall, and into the pool. The atrium that surrounds the lobby on each floor also has fireplaces, comfortable places to sit, writing desks, and a great view of the lobby.

The Accommodations

The rooms feature western, northwestern, and Native American décor. There are three views to choose from. Standard view, woods view, and courtyard view. There are a limited amount of family rooms that have bunk beds. There are several honeymoon suites that have marble hot tubs. That makes this a resort a great place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway.

Dining

Wilderness Lodge features two full service restaurants, one lounge, and two snack bars.

Artist Point is an elegant full service restaurant that features décor and flavors from the Pacific Northwest. The featured entrée is the Cedar Plank Roasted Wild King Salmon served with seasonal vegetables in parsley oil. For dessert, we recommend the cobbler.

Whispering Canyon Café has a Wild West attitude, and the waiters and waitresses really put on a funny show as they interact with each other. The café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are all you can eat meals at all three settings.

Roaring Fork is a counter service restaurant that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. Collectible, refillable mugs are available at this quick service restaurant.

Territory Lounge is a full service bar that also serves snacks like nachos and chicken wings.

Room Service and pizza delivery are also available at this resort from 7am to midnight.

There is also a seasonal snack bar at both of the pools.

Recreation

There are lots of things to do at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. You can get some sun on the white sand shore of Bay Lake, or at either of this resorts two pools. The main pool features a waterslide. There are bicycle and boat rentals and fishing excursions. For the health conscious, there is a jogging trail and a gym. You can watch Fire Rock Geyser shoot water 120 feet in the air every hour on the hour.

Here is another thing at Disney World for adults. The Cub’s Den is a safe place to leave your kids so parents can have a night out to themselves.
